Nifedipine
Indications:
Nifedipine is used for the treatment and prevention of angina resulting from coronary artery spasm as well as from exertion. Nifedipine is also used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by the physician.
How to take:
Take Nifedipine as directed by the doctor. Take each tablet with a full glass of water on an empty stomach. Do not crush, chew, and break the tablet. Take the tablet as a whole. Do not drink grapefruit juice during Nifedipine therapy as its interaction may produce dangerous effects. Consult doctor first before stopping the use of the drug as it may worsen the condition. Precautions:
Inform the doctor of any medical condition before starting Nifedipine therapy, some conditions may interact with the drug. There are also drugs that interfere with the effect of Nifedipine specifically barbiturates, beta blockers, quinidine, and theophylline because these drugs decreases the effectiveness of Nifedipine. Check with your health care provider before starting, stopping, or changing the dose of any medicine. Avoid using alcohol while taking this medication. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into breast milk.
