Indication:

Trihexyphenidyl alters unusual nerve impulses and relaxes stiff muscles. It is used to treat such Parkinson symptoms as poor muscle control, tremors and stiff muscles. It can also be used to treat similar symptoms caused by certain drugs, including chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, perphenazine, haloperidol, thiothixene and others.

How to take:

Take trihexyphenidyl exactly as directed by your doctor. You should take each dose with a full glass of water, with or without meals. The starting dose is usually 1mg given on the first day. The dose can be increased up to 10-15mg a day. To increase tolerability Trihexyphenidyl may be given in several divided doses.

Precautions:

Your doctor may consider prescribing a different medication if you are hypersensitiveto trihexyphenidyl, or if you experienced one of these conditiions: narrow angle glaucoma, ileus, obstructive diseases of the urogenital tract, seizures and potentially dangerous tachycardia. Trihexyphenidyl should not be used in patients under 18yrs of age. Trihexyphenidyl has been reported as a drug of abuse and shouldn't be used by patients with a history drug addiction.

Side effects:

If you experience any of these severe side effects, seek medical assistance immediately: an allergic reaction symptoms (difficulty breathing,hives, swelling of the face, legs), fever, irregular heartbeats, heartburn, anxiety, hallucinations, delirium or any changes in behaviour, seizures or worsening of Parkinson symptoms. Less serious and more common side effects inlude druness of the mouth, nausea, feeling dizzy or drowsy, upset stomach, difficulty urinating or constipation.
